Job description

HIRING A SENIOR PLUMBING DESIGNER - HEALTHCARE IN HOUSTON

DBR is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Plumbing Designer to join the Houston office, specializing in healthcare projects. This role is for a dedicated professional ready to take the lead on complex plumbing systems for various medical facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and engineering of plumbing systems for diverse healthcare facilities, including hospitals, medical office buildings, surgery centers, and clinics.
  • Develop complete plumbing construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and riser diagrams.
  • Perform plumbing design calculations, including domestic water, sanitary drainage, medical gas, and specialty plumbing systems.
  • Coordinate with internal mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural design teams, as well as external clients and contractors.
  • Act as the primary technical resource for plumbing design on assigned projects.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior design staff.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of plumbing design documents.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested / needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in plumbing system design healthcare facilities.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and application of relevant healthcare codes, including FGI Guidelines, TDSHS, NFPA and various state / local health department regulations.
  • Proven experience designing for a variety of healthcare facility types, such as acute care hospitals, specialty clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, and imaging centers.
  • High proficiency in Revit production for creating 3D models and construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of medical gas and vacuum systems design and code requirements (e.g., NFPA 99).
  • Ability to efficiently manage scope, schedule, and budget for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Expertise in sizing and selecting plumbing equipment, including water heaters, pumps, and fixtures.
  • Familiarity with rainwater and storm drainage systems design.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for client and team interaction.
  • Proven track record as a proactive and successful team player within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • A reputation as an efficient worker who consistently meets deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Relevant industry certification (e.g., CPD or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of fire protection system fundamentals and coordination is a plus.
