Job description

DEFINITION

: The primary role of the school-based resource teacher is to provide in-house expertise, service, and support to teachers and administrators with regard to curriculum implementation, instruction, and related matters. Provides a variety of services to include classroom instruction, student assessments, professional development, and data analysis. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Works collaboratively with the school-based leadership team to assess incoming students and analyze data to support the instructional program.
  • As teacher of record, plans for and implements instruction based on Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) curriculum and researched based best teaching practices.
  • Assist teachers by working collaboratively with teachers to co-plan, co-teach and model lessons based on research-based instructional strategies and best practices.
  • Provides specific, targeted teacher/team support based on school progress plans and direction from the school administrator. Assists the administrator in leading the process of continuous school improvement.
  • Reviews students learning plans with students and families during the students time at Meadowood and provides feedback to comprehensive schools prior to the students return regarding progress on their individual learning plans.
  • Assists in determining and implementing school organization, student placement and evaluation, and services and programs that provide for the needs of children.
  • Provides for changes in schedules and programs to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Assists teachers with the preparation of students for success on BCPS and state assessments such as BCPS End of Unit, MAP, and PARCC.
  • Supports teacher professional growth by providing professional learning aligned with identified teacher and school goals.
  • Collaborates with staff from the Division of Curriculum and Instruction to support the implementation of instructional programs at the school.
  • Assists teachers and administrators in adapting curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Communicates standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents. Meets with students and parents.
  • Attends staff meetings. Serves on various committees.
  • Instructs students as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the assignment.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience which includes experience in planning and implementing professional development.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate is required.
  • Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices.
  • Demonstration of strong communication and human relations skills.
  • Demonstration of effective organization and communication skills.
  • Demonstration of strong computer/technology skills.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • The work of this classification is performed in both office and classroom environments.
  • In the office, work includes the operation of office equipment and personal computers.
  • In the classroom, work involves instructional practice and interactions with students, staff.
