EmpowerED Care is seeking a passionate and skilled Special Instructor (Special Education Teacher) to provide individualized early intervention services to infants and toddlers (birth to age three) and their families.

We have multiple locations that we service around New York City; Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties.

We can offer Full-Time / Part-Time / Contract positions. We offer a flexible schedule with remote / hybrid work with travel to patients within your community.

Role Overview :

The Special Instructor partners with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary team members to support children’s developmental growth through evidence-based, trauma-informed, and family-centered practices.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Conduct developmental assessments and participate in multidisciplinary evaluations to identify strengths, needs, and learning goals.
  • Develop and implement individualized family service plans (IFSPs) in collaboration with the EI team and family.
  • Provide direct special instruction in home, community, and center-based settings to promote cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and adaptive development.
  • Model effective strategies for parents / caregivers and coach them in embedding developmental learning within daily routines.
  • Collaborate closely with Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapists, as well as Service Coordinators, to ensure coordinated, whole-child support.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in accordance with NYS Department of Health and Early Intervention Program standards.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing reflective supervision consistent with EmpowerED Care’s quality assurance and training plan.

Qualifications (per NYS DOH requirements) :

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • New York State Certification in Special Education (Birth–Grade 2, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, and families, preferably within an Early Intervention or preschool special education setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfort working with diverse families and multidisciplinary teams.
