Job description

Position Overview

The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) at NC State University is seeking an AmeriCorps Next Step Adviser to serve high school students in rural North Carolina counties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one admissions and financial aid advising to students and families.
  • Organize group events that encourage students to consider, plan for, and apply to post-secondary opportunities.
  • Build productive relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers within partner schools.
  • Enhance visibility of the advising role through school and community outreach.
  • Document and analyze student interactions to assist program assessment and long-term sustainability.
  • Maintain expertise in admissions and financial aid advising.

Additional Details

  • Report to NC State-based program staff and high school onsite supervisors.
  • Participate in paid summer training and ongoing year-round training.
  • Commit to one academic year (11 months) of service with a preferred two-year commitment when mutually agreed.
  • Must be able to relocate to the service area and be involved in the surrounding community.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Experience / Education : Bachelor's degree completed within approximately four years of service. All majors considered.

  • Strong organization, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Work well with youth and diverse populations.
  • Collaborate effectively with others.
  • Initiative, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Serve independently and take initiative.
  • A strong commitment to service.
  • Navigate Google and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Preferred Skills

  • Previous work with youth or coursework around youth and education.
  • Previous work with diverse populations.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • Previous leadership positions.
  • Previous involvement in a committed volunteer partnership.
  • Priority given to graduates of NC State University during the initial application review process.
  • Work Schedule

    Monday – Friday. Daily work hours follow the partner high school's expected schedule for faculty and staff.

    Salary

    $37,000 - $38,000 (exact living allowance dependent on grantor).
