Principal Member of Technical Staff

Job Description

The Principal Member of Technical Staff will lead the development and management of software solutions that integrate with advanced networking technologies. They define high-level objectives, design delivery procedures, organize technical milestones, and support tasks. The role often serves as the project technical lead, coordinating 2–3 engineers, advising the program manager, and collaborating with leadership to ensure alignment with organizational goals. As a subject-matter expert in networking, they take responsibility for complex projects, including the development of software for network operating systems and related infrastructure. Responsibilities include decomposing high-level architectures into detailed software designs, leading the development of solutions that involve multiple modules and complex interactions, and ensuring proper support by monitoring and automation systems. The candidate will act as an SME for root-cause analysis, develop scripts to automate tasks bridging software and networking functions, lead software automation design and delivery projects for network operations, and guide junior engineers. They collaborate with vendor engineering, account managers, product teams, and the PMO to assess gaps, solutions, and needs. This is a remote, full-time position based anywhere in the United States, offering full Oracle benefits.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of software engineering experience focusing on networking
• Proficiency in Python and C / C++
• Background with ASIC, SAI and Broadcom chipsets
• Knowledge of networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, TCP / IP) and technologies (VPN, DNS, DHCP, MPLS)
• Experience with network automation, scripting and tooling (Python, Ansible)
• Familiarity with network modeling (YANG, OpenConfig, NETCONF)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
• Strong expertise in network operating systems and networking hardware
• Experience developing software solutions for large enterprise or cloud environments
• Experience with distributed systems and cloud-native architecture
• Strong understanding of network security best practices
• Experience with CI / CD pipelines, version control and DevOps practices
• Knowledge of API development and integration in networking
• Leading individual contributor and mentoring others
• Excellent judgment influencing product roadmap
• Capable of working under limited supervision
• Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
