Job description

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Legal Compliance Team is responsible for being a trusted business partner to Anduril's various business units. Our goal is to deliver thoughtful and timely compliance solutions that enable and protect the enterprise through all stages of rapid innovation and growth. You will represent the Legal Compliance team in relationships with outside counsel, vendors, engineers, executives, customers, and regulators.

ABOUT THE JOB

Anduril is a fast-growing company at the early stages of growth. Consistent with this fast growth, members of Anduril's Legal Team must be resourceful, creative, and eager to take ownership of complex matters. We are looking for an Environmental Attorney-Legal Counsel, Compliance- who can use his/her creativity and resourcefulness to work across most aspects of Anduril's business, managing a full spectrum of environmental, health and safety issues. This requires a strong understanding of U.S. federal, state and local environmental, safety and health laws with the ability to digest and navigate similar laws in multiple jurisdictions outside of United States, including the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and other international locations where Anduril operates. In addition to handling environmental, health and safety issues, you will also support other regulatory compliance areas involving maritime, aerospace, and defense sectors. Experience across all of these areas is not expected, but a willingness to learn and adapt is. Of particular interest will be legal or compliance experience involving environmental licensing and emissions. And, at Anduril we exercise our technologies in both civil and defense environments. This role includes understanding our products, customers and operations to inform short term needs as well as shape longer term strategic planning in this area across our design laboratories, production facilities, and test sites.

This position will require knowledge in the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and also the ability to provide environmental, safety, and health ("ES&H") legal advice, counsel and service to the Anduril ES&H program. Additional areas of focus that Anduril desires are compliance experience with cybersecurity and cloud computing; FAR/DFARS supply chain; or privacy and information security. The Legal Team partners closely with customers, outside counsel, and business partners across the organization to support business development and day-to-day legal operations. This includes everything from providing legal oversight to product development, giving legal guidance to existing business areas, to crafting legal and business strategies.

The Environmental Attorney-Legal Counsel, Compliance will be expected to take responsibility for material projects which will have a significant impact on the company's business. Our team is passionate about the law and policy of defense technology and you should have an independent interest in the key issues in this field. Anduril fosters a diverse, collaborative, culture with tremendous opportunities for ownership and professional growth. This position reports to the Associate General Counsel, Compliance, and will be based in Costa Mesa, CA or Washington, DC.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Be a key member of Anduril's dynamic Legal Team. Constantly learn and develop new expertise to support the entire Anduril enterprise.
  • Provide daily support to the ES&H department; work cross-functionally to identify requirements and develop the best plan for timely, compliant development and manufacture of Anduril products and planning of Anduril work sites.
  • Drive customer growth by managing the regulatory requirements to develop, deploy and operate Anduril products. Use your expertise in compliance to help the Business Development, Proposal, and Engineering Teams efficiently innovate new products, capture new contracts, grow existing contracts, and ensure timely and uninterrupted performance. Assist in the strategy development for new business.
  • Manage relationships with Government regulatory agencies. High-trust professional relationships with Government regulatory offices are critical to Anduril's continued success, and you will be called upon to develop and foster these relationships throughout your tenure.
  • Work on all legal aspects of Anduril's business, from negotiating license and services agreements, supporting international expansion, handling intellectual property, to employment matters. You will represent the legal team in relationships with outside counsel, vendors, engineers, executives, customers, and regulators.

  • U.S. Federal and State licensing and regulatory process for the construction, modification, and winding down of manufacturing, test, and operational facilities.
  • Experience with environmental and toxic tort litigation.
  • Technical knowledge of unmanned and autonomous systems.
  • The judgment and initiative required to own multiple projects from end-to-end, whether guiding engineering teams through the lifecycle of an export license or handling unexpected legal issues that may arise in defense or start-up companies
  • Quick learner and able to contribute to the broader start-up legal function, including topics that may be completely new to you: everything from IP and litigation to financing, securities, compliance, and employment law, depending on the needs of the day
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Must be (1) admitted to practice law and be a member in good standing of the bar of any state; (2) capable of registering as a corporate counsel in California through the Registered In-House Counsel (RIHC) program or meet the criteria for an exemption under D.C. • Combination of law-firm and in-house/government experience
  • 4+ years of experience with FAR/DFARS supply chain compliance and certifications (or UK, AUS, or EU equivalents)
  • Experience working with the U.S. Department of Defense
