Wills Eye Hospital is seeking a dedicated Optometrist to join our suburban practice network, supporting patients in Paoli and King of Prussia. This full-time position offers the opportunity to deliver exceptional, patient-centered eye care within one of the nation's most respected ophthalmology institutions, working alongside leading corneal specialists and a multidisciplinary team committed to clinical excellence and innovation.
Primary Function
The Optometrist will perform routine comprehensive eye examinations independently and refer patients for glasses to the optical shop. This clinician will also assist in urgent care eye exam work-ups, triaging patients appropriately to ophthalmologists, and will support subspecialty corneal disease care as capable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct regularly scheduled patient care activities, including obtaining and documenting pertinent medical and ocular histories, visual needs, and relevant symptoms.Perform slit lamp and fundus examinations and other diagnostic evaluations as necessary.Document clearly and completely in the electronic health record (EHR), including history of present illness, impressions, and clinical action plans.Create referral letters to coordinate care with primary care physicians and other specialists, particularly for annual diabetic eye examinations.Utilize diagnostic tests to detect and manage ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and macular degeneration, documenting findings accurately.Maintain compliance with Medicare coding and documentation guidelines, PQRS, Meaningful Use, and other quality programs as applicable.Ensure accurate diagnostic and procedural coding, and participate in medical record reviews when requested.Comply with all HIPAA regulations, maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information.Participate in insurance credentialing and cooperate with all accepted insurance plans of the Wills Eye Ophthalmology Clinic.Communicate effectively with optical, ophthalmology, support staff, and fellow optometrists to ensure seamless patient care and operational efficiency.Contribute to the integration of optometry within an ophthalmology teaching and research environment.Uphold the rights and dignity of all patients, without discrimination.Demonstrate teamwork, professionalism, and receptiveness to feedback in all interactions.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications
Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited institution.Active or eligible Pennsylvania optometry license.Excellent diagnostic and interpersonal skills.Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care in a multidisciplinary environment.Compensation and Benefits
Salary : $140,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience.Bonuses : Metric-based performance incentive opportunities.Benefits : Comprehensive package including health, dental, vision, retirement plan, paid parental leave, and continuing education support.
