Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Member of Technical Staff to join the Compute team and help define and build the future of Compute at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

We are seeking a technically exceptional and highly innovative Principal level Engineer to help architect, build, and scale OCI's Compute backend infrastructure services. In this pivotal role, you will :

Lead design and development of critical recovery management infrastructure APIs and systems

Drive architectural decisions for disaster recovery automation, virtualization, agent-based management, and OS image provisioning.

Set technical direction for new features and enhancements, influencing both short-term deliveries and long-term strategy.

Mentor and guide engineering teams, setting the standard for technical excellence and best practices.

Engage with cross-functional leaders (product, security, reliability, operations) to deliver end-to-end solutions that meet Oracle's standards for performance, security, and scalability.

Represent our team in technical forums, advocate for best-in-class engineering, and continuously raise the bar for quality in our deliverables.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Member of Technical Staff you will own the software design and development for major components of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure. You should be both a rock solid coder and a distributed systems generalist, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems, as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. This role is a back-end web service development role with a high emphasis on thorough design, scalability, and high availability. The features you design and implement will be extremely critical to internal and external customers. You will be responsible for a wide-ranging set of tasks within the software development space. These range from participating in high-level architectural discussions to feature implementation and DevOps automation.

Key responsibilities

Own the software design and development for major components of OCI Compute backend services

Drive operational excellence and best practices to improve the quality of platform

Deep dive into any part of the stack from low-level Linux systems to high-level distributed system interactions to root cause issues and ensure our systems are resilient and fault tolerant.

Value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Basic qualifications

6+ years of software development experience in systems or application-level engineering

Proficiency in one of the following programming languages : Go, Java, Python

Strong knowledge of data structures, database, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems

Skills in operating, debugging, and testing complex systems

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

Preferred qualifications

Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field

Experience with Infrastructure-as-a-Service platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)

Experience with CI / CD pipelines, version control systems, and DevOps practices.

Proven ability as a leading individual contributor and team member, providing direction and mentoring to others

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US : Hiring Range in USD from : $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off : Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
