Description :

Med / Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med / Surg Nurses include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans.

They prepare and administer prescribed medications and record the administration details.

Nurses report adverse reactions to medications in accordance with medication administration policies.

Education of patients regarding surgical procedures is also part of their role.

They record medical information and vital signs meticulously.

Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients is required.

Nurses interpret and record electronic displays and initiate corrective action for adverse symptoms.

They provide bedside care for a diverse range of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.

Initiating patient education plans as prescribed by a physician is expected.

They teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury, covering post-treatment home care needs.

Nurses change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.

Preparation of equipment and assistance to the physician during examinations and treatments are essential duties.

They respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols.

Participation in discharge planning is part of their responsibilities.

Effective time management skills are utilized in this role.

All care information must be recorded concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Additional position-related duties may be assigned depending on the assignment setting.
