Patient Access Representative (Temporary Position, 3-month assignment with possible extension)
The Patient Access Representative is the first point of contact for patients and assists them in obtaining medical care. Responsible for all aspects of the registration process, insurance verification, patient collections, referrals, discharge disposition, scanning documentation to EMR system, explaining policies and procedures concerning consent to treat, financial, HIPAA, advance directives, handling patient queries and concerns.
Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers through prompt response and courteous communication. Occasionally assists Hospital switchboard operator for all calls, processes miscellaneous paperwork in compliance with Hospital Policies and Law Requirements.
Responsibilities
- Adequately enters all patient demographics on a consistent basis
- Efficiently enters insurance, policy number, Medicare CDS, and authorizations
- Accurately obtains insurance eligibility and posts into patient account. Processes Hospital PE applications and issues Medical Application for San Benito County
- Effectively completes all consent processes including proper distribution of the Health Information Statement
- Understands all Hospital Codes including lock down procedures
- Understands all Co-pays / Deductibles, utilizes payroll deduction form for start, and collects accordingly
- Completes Cash reports accurately, Deposits balances with cash report, and faxes Daily Deposit sheet to the Business Office. Maintains accuracy with no overage or shortage
- Completes all REG / REF for ancillary departments correctly & pre-reg's appointments
- Completes all Pre-OB's, Labor checks, OB observation admissions, and OB Inpatient admission accurately
- Completes all Worker's Comp, Client Accounts, Employee Health accounts, Motor vehicle accounts accurately
- All admissions in appropriate status, rooms changes, change of status, provider change, room changes, Observations, and clearing patients for discharge
- Intakes all ER accounts consistently front end, registers consistently on the back end, completes ER to OR accurately, Blood Draw accounts, Medical Clearance, chest pain / stroke protocols, ambulance patients, daily tear down, hospital census corrections / status, and maintains worker comp log.
- Completes LAB drop / flips daily
- Accurate in not creating duplicate accounts or medical records numbers on all patient registration processes
- Attends appropriate workshops as assigned and monthly staff meetings
- Maintains all mandated benchmarks of 95% per national standards, governmental rules and regulations
- Performs all job-related assignments as assigned
Required Skills / Abilities
Knowledge of Insurance and Medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations pertaining to Hospital Admissions preferredComputer and keyboard operations and accurate 45+ wpmBilingual in English and Spanish speaking and writing preferred.Basic customer service skillsBasic math skills, money handling and accounting skills : knowledge of medical terminology; knowledge of healthcare insurance billing.Education & Experience
