Advanced Practitioner Cardiothoracic Surgery

Job Summary

The Reading Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practitioner to join our CT Surgery team. The General Cardiothoracic Surgical Advanced Practitioner works with the Cardiothoracic Surgeons and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals in coordinating and delivering patient care in a limited, non-cardiac surgical arena of the cardiothoracic surgery service. Facilitates communication between the patient and family, various hospital departments, the Nursing Service and the Medical Staff; function as a clinical expert in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Program and will practice to the fullest extent permitted under all current state and federal laws, and according to approved policies.

We are looking for a Non-Surgical NP or PA who does Consults and rounding, direct admissions, and discharges, runs ICU at night when performing night call and covers floor coverage during the day.  The APP will also assist surgeons with pre operative work, consults and communications with the patients , prescribe and order pre and post operative diagnostic studies, performs H&P’s as well as possesses the advanced knowledge in hemodynamic management of ventilators, ventricular assist devices, the pharmacological effects of vasoactive cardiotonic drugs, and adult critical care in order to function at the highest level of autonomy within limits of advance practice licensure.

Position responsibilities :

• Hours would be 5 : 30p to 7a
• Patient Care
• Manage care for both pre and post op patients on our service
• See inpatient consults that come in while on shift
• Identify and contact which physician needed to come in during an emergency
• Book OR if patient needed to go to OR emergently
• Call the PA on call if they need to come in for surgery
• Triage patient and support until surgeon arrives at hospital
• All applicants must be certified, with an active Professional Pennsylvania license (PA or NP).

BLS and ACLS must be current.
