American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Psych inpatient position in Maine, caring for children and adolescents with behavioral health needs on night shifts.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Position is in a free-standing acute inpatient pediatric psychiatric unitPatient population includes children and adolescents ages 5-18 with acute behavioral health conditionsCommon diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoriaRN night shift ratios are 1 : 13 with additional nursing support and psych techs presentFloating may occur between pediatric and adult psychiatric units, with manager approval required if not comfortable floating to pedsUtilizes Cerner EMR and Pyxis medication dispensing systemNo typical lines, drains, or tubes; all patients are medically cleared before admission12-hour night shifts from 7PM to 7AM; weekend rotation every other weekHoliday coverage is required as part of the rotationResponsibilities include providing traditional medical and psychiatric care, running groups, and supporting specialized therapies such as pet therapy and community activitiesWill care for both voluntary and involuntary admissions in a locked facility (no forensic or inmate patients)Support includes nurse supervisor, nurse manager, house administrator, charge nurse, psych techs, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, and occupational therapistOrientation includes a week of day shifts, followed by scheduled night shiftsScrubs in any solid color are permitted as long as they are professionalFacility offers free parkingExpect heavy snow conditions during winter monthsFirst-time travelers are accepted for this role\n \n Requirements\n
Active ME or compact RN license is requiredCurrent BLS certification requiredMinimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience requiredPediatric behavioral health experience preferred, but not required with manager approvalExperience with de-escalation techniques and physical restraints is required; chemical restraints are not usedAbility to pass medications, run groups, and complete documentationMust be comfortable floating to both pediatric and adult units or seek approval if otherwiseWillingness to obtain MOAB certification on site during orientationMust not have worked permanently at any Northern Light Health HospitalPerm address must be at least 100 miles South or Southwest of Bangor, ME to be eligibleFlu vaccination required prior to start (medical exemptions allowed with approval)Driver's license required for consideration\n Benefits\n
