The School Guidance Counselor will provide social-emotional, behavioral, and academic support for students in grades K–8, in alignment with the school’s mission and Catholic values. This role focuses on fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where students can thrive spiritually, academically, and socially.
Requirements :
- Teach and act in accordance with doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Know, teach, and act consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Catholic school.
Student Support
Provide short-term individual and group counseling for students on topics such as emotional regulation, peer relationships, conflict resolution, grief, and stress management.Identify and address barriers to learning, with a focus on equity and cultural responsiveness for our primarily Latino community.Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement classroom strategies for student success.Crisis Intervention & Referrals
Respond to urgent student needs and provide immediate support in crisis situations.Refer students and families to outside counseling, mental health services, or community resources when needed.Maintain relationships with local agencies and social service providers.Family & Community Engagement
Communicate regularly with parents / guardians regarding student needs and progress.Provide culturally sensitive support for families, respecting language preferences and cultural traditions.Partner with parish ministries and community organizations to strengthen family support networks.Program Development
Assist in the development of school-wide social-emotional learning (SEL) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).Promote initiatives aligned with Catholic teachings and virtues such as compassion, respect, integrity, and responsibility.Qualifications
Degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, or related field (required).Current state certification / licensure in counseling or related discipline (preferred).Experience working in K–8 school settings, preferably in diverse or bilingual communities.Understanding of Catholic faith and values; ability to integrate faith-based principles into guidance work.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
