Your Role on the Team

Position Summary :

This position reports to the Director, Physicians Billing Group, a large, complex, multi-specialty professional fee billing operation for physicians who practice as faculty at UC Irvine Health. Incumbent oversees day-to-day administrative and financial operations, coordinating revenue cycle management functions, including system billing, reporting, and support. Provides leadership that facilitates high-quality service and fosters an engaged, team- and service-oriented environment. Effectively manages resources, provides proven human resource management, and ensures staff development and training to maintain compliance. Collaborates with leadership and applies expertise and sound decision making in the development of strategic plans and objectives, innovative improvements, and enhanced processes to maximize efficiencies, revenue, and financial soundness and timely achievement of objectives. Allocates resources and responsibilities to ensure adherence to fiscal and operational standards. Analyzes data and provides reports identifying trends, operational issues, corrective actions, and forecasts. A key partner in the development and implementation of policies and procedures ensuring governmental compliance.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications :

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and delegate assignments efficiently
  • Strong knowledge of metrics, analytics, and data synthesis in healthcare revenue cycle management to identify trends and produce reliable forecasts and projections, and create reports, dashboards, and presentations
  • Strong knowledge of information technology specific to healthcare revenue cycle management and related functions, including software, hardware, tools, techniques, and systems
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations, concepts, and policies and their impact throughout the organization, with an in-depth understanding of related functions and issues, including coding, registration, billing, reimbursements, aging accounts, contractual adjustments, and charge capture
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills to convey complex information clearly and concisely to all levels of staff and management
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, organizational, and business process optimization skills, with the ability to troubleshoot, interpret complex data and systems, develop and pursue goals, synthesize data to identify system vulnerabilities, and develop and apply innovative solutions
  • Previous work experience with Medicare, Medi-Cal and major commercial payors
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum of 3 years' demonstrated experience in a leadership position in a revenue-based, health care-related industry such as admissions, registration, billing / payor or contracting
  • Minimum 7 years' relevant work experience in an academic, hospital finance, or professional billing / patient account services environment
  • Knowledge of multi-specialty front-end medical office operations, including registration, authorization, and coding processes along with the industry-standard software applications
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal and state regulations surrounding third party reimbursement, compliance programs, chart audits and coding, and provider documentation
  • Extensive knowledge of governmental compliance rules and issues as it pertains to health care billing, collection and other reimbursement.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and cooperation for effective problem solving, conflict resolution, support for organizational values, and consistent achievement of targets and objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, influence, and persuade others and work effectively with leadership on establishing operational goals and providing for technological upgrades, tools, and systems to maximize revenues
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Business, Finance, or related field
  • Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
