Part-Time Faculty : Sec. Instr.-Communications Syracuse-PR Campaign Planning & Execution (Oct '25)

Location : Syracuse, NY - (online)

Pay Range : $2,250 per credit hour

Pay Determination : Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

FLSA Status : Exempt

Hours : Synchronous (or live) session for 1 hour and 45 minutes each week for 11 weeks. The class section will have approximately 15 students. For this term, synchronous sessions will be Thursdays 7 : 00pm-8 : 45pm (10 / 2-12 / 11 / 25).

Job Description

The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is looking for a part-time online instructor to be a section instructor for PRL 615 PR Campaign Planning & Execution (3 credits).

For this term, synchronous sessions will run Thursdays 7 : 00pm-8 : 45 pm, (10 / 2-12 / 11 / 25).

Course Description : This course is required for the public relations concentration. It takes a hands-on approach to teaching students the importance of communication campaigns to practically every kind of organization - for-profit, not-for-profit, government and political. After taking this course, the students will be able :

1. To apply a full range of public relations and management skills in a real-world setting.

2. To become familiar with the work of professionals in the field.

3. To analyze, research and plan on behalf of a client.

4. To gain knowledge of practical campaign tools and tactics.

Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Significant teaching and / or professional experience in the field.

Responsibilities

  • View the asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session.
  • Conduct discussions for each week’s live session based on direction from the coordinator of PRL 615.
  • Be available to meet for these discussions on the online platform provided.
  • Follow guidance of coordinator on topics related to the asynchronous material, student questions and progress, assignments and exams, and the introduction of timely topical news and information that may apply to course concepts, relevant case studies and articles.
  • Additional responsibilities include :

  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions / rubrics provided.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Attend immersion sessions, if invited, when offered.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to instruct the class on the online platform on the days it is designated to meet.
  • Ability to hold office hours.
  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
