Job Description

WHO WE ARE

The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Our members provide electricity for more than 250 million Americans and operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. As a whole, the electric power industry supports more than 7 million jobs in communities across the United States.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER:

Our Reliability department has a dynamic opening for a Senior Principal Engineer. The incumbent will provide technical leadership on electric power industry reliability planning and operations issues, including those matters related to the development of mandatory reliability standards by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), as regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) under the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to EEI and its members related to transmission and distribution questions.
  • Plan, organize, and lead technical discussions with EEI’s Reliability Technical Committee. Responsibilities include establishing an agenda of key NERC and industry reliability and resilience issues, identifying and coordinating with subject matter experts to participate in the discussion, and meeting facilitation.
  • Perform analytical evaluations and draft comments on NERC Reliability Standards, reliability guidelines, technical documents and other reliability and resilience related documents and activities, drive member consensus positions, and ensure timely submittal of EEI comments.
  • Provide technical support and assist in the development of EEI comments for FERC and DOE rulemakings and proceedings.
  • Proactively engage in reliability and resilience activities with NERC, FERC, and other organizations to identify potential concerns with direction early on and identify solutions to address risks to the electric grid.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in the electric power industry with a focus on grid planning, operations, or reliability.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Understanding of transmission and distribution system operations or engineering/planning of the bulk-power system.
  • Knowledge of the NERC industry standard development process.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse sets of internal and external stakeholders to build consensus.
  • Must be able to manage time effectively, prioritize workload, and multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong research and fact-finding skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) required.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested applicants should apply online through EEI’s career site. EEI uses Clear Company as our applicant tracking system. An application is considered when all required fields are completed.

Compensation

The salary range for role is $158,843 – $190,629. Starting annual salary will be determined on individual qualifications. We offer a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid time off, tuition assistance, wellness incentives and programs, transportation subsidy, and professional development opportunities. The role is eligible for a performance based bonus.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY DEMANDS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EEI is committed to providing a productive and safe environment. To achieve that goal, we conduct background and reference check investigations for all final applicants being considered for employment. Equal Opportunity Employment M/D/F/V
