Responsibilities and Duties
Provide a variety of professional medical services to inmates and residents, including examinations, diagnosis, treatment, medication prescription, and follow-up careOffer direction and leadership for the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services SupervisorMonitor and review standards of care and operations for inmates and residentsInterview and assess admissions for inmates and residentsConduct clinical rounds and participate in treatment team meetings for individualized health plansDirect unit treatment operations and perform minor and occasional major surgeries as neededHold clinics for nursing specialists, assist with diagnoses, treatment, prescriptions, and protocolsMaintain strong working relationships with facility staff, contract providers, and outside agenciesApply established policies and sound independent judgment in all responsibilitiesAssist in the development of facility medical policies and motivate staff adherence to proceduresEvaluate medical services regularly to prevent inappropriate use or duplicationMonitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate timely release as clinically appropriateClosely monitor potential catastrophic illnessesPrepare and maintain comprehensive records, reports, and logs, and audit medical files for documentationRecommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of health servicesEngage with outside hospital and agency administrators to foster effective collaborationFacilitate accreditation efforts for the medical program as applicableAccept on-call status and attend required seminars, workshops, and conferencesProvide health counseling and education individually or in groupsCommunicate responsibilities and accountability to subordinates, and conduct staff meetings to promote effective communicationMaintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical recordsAdditional Information
