The Staff Acoustic Engineer will also assist in advancing computational acoustic modeling capabilities, support and oversee acoustic tests, and mentor junior members within the organization.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation in acoustics through computational modeling, tool development, and test support, particularly as it relates to acoustic predictions of aircraft engines.
  • Experience in predicting engine and aircraft community noise levels, ensuring accurate acoustic performance projections.
  • Modernize legacy tools and develop new software solutions to address contemporary and future challenges in computational aeroacoustics.
  • Run Computational Aeroacoustics (CAA) analyses on turbomachinery components to support design optimization and noise reduction efforts.
  • Provide acoustic technical guidance, training, and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Drive continual technical and process improvement through design practice reviews and revisions in collaboration with the Chief Consulting Engineer and Manager.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
  • Collaborate with internal leadership and external customers, including airframers, to understand requirements, provide technical insights, and deliver tailored solutions.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of industry experience in an acoustics, aircraft engine or CAA / CFD applications.
  • Desired Characteristics

  • PhD degree in Engineering with a focus in acoustics.
  • Demonstrated experience performing computational aeroacoustics analyses on HPC resources.
  • Familiarity with acoustic testing, data post-processing, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or FORTRAN for tool development and modernization, with a demonstrated interest in creating innovative solutions for emerging acoustic challenges.
  • Experience leading, documenting, planning, and promoting technical programs and projects in acoustics.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, for applicants who are not U.S. lawful permanent residents, U.S. Citizens, or have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., not a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), otherwise known as a U.S. Person), employment will be contingent on the ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
