About the Program
Royal Switchgear is launching a traditional Engineering Co-op rotation starting in Spring 2026. This program allows students to alternate between semesters of full-time work with Royal Switchgear and semesters of academic study, gaining valuable industry experience while staying on track for graduation.
- First rotation begins : January 2026 (Spring semester)
- Students typically complete 2-3 alternating rotations (e.g., Spring 2026, Fall 2026, Spring 2027).
- With multiple students in rotation, Royal Switchgear maintains year-round coverage, giving students exposure to different projects and stages of our operations.
Responsibilities
As a Co-op, you may work in design, manufacturing, and quality engineering. Typical responsibilities include :
Assist with the design, testing, and documentation of custom switchgear componentsSupport production and manufacturing engineering teams with process improvementsConduct time studies and analyze workflow efficiencyCollaborate with maintenance and quality teams to troubleshoot and improve equipmentGather and analyze production data to identify cost savings or efficiency gainsParticipate in root cause analysis and help implement corrective actionsCreate or update CAD drawings and engineering documentationSupport safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiativesAttend and participate in team meetings, project briefings, and cross-functional workshopsRequirements
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related)Minimum 2.5 GPASophomore standing or higher by credit hoursStrong communication, teamwork, and CAD / technical skillsAvailability to work full-time (40 hrs / week) during assigned co-op semestersAbility to commit to multiple alternating semesters of work / schoolReliable transportation to Bessemer, AL (limited public transit options)Benefits
