The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the VA to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable the VA to increase the use, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Estimates and completes development tasks including coding, requirements gathering, and analysis with little feedback and guidance from the team.
  • Practices technical and communications skills to improve context knowledge and mentor junior developers.
  • Assesses and diagnoses issues with the systems they own, prioritizing problem areas based on alignment with other practice areas.
  • Participates in on‑call rotations with their team as necessary.
  • Presents on and writes about their work to both internal and external parties.
  • Participates in planning sessions, building understanding of major architectures and design patterns.
  • Supports recruiting efforts by evaluating homework assignments and potentially assisting with interviews.
  • Exhibits influential skills to drive improvements in team engineering processes and practices.
  • Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of the business, how practices interact, and what customer problems we are solving.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, and 5+ years of engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud services and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability and openness to new ideas.
  • Experience as a DBA or in a similar role.
  • Commitment to professional growth and learning.
  • Experience with APIs and ETL tools (such as Dell Boomi and MuleSoft, etc.).
  • Experience with API SDKs, supporting API development and data exchanges with Azure cloud services.
  • Proficiency in Linux administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS) and shell scripting.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior government contracting experience.
  • Experience with system‑level programming, performance tuning, and kernel modules is a plus.

    In support of various state and city equal pay transparency laws, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $120,000 - $130,000.
