Job description

Position Summary :

Without supervision, Level 3 Quality Inspectors will demonstrate extensive knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerancing (GD&T) methods per ASME14.5. They will demonstrate expert level blueprint reading and manufacturing / inspection related math skills. They will serve as SMEs for CMM inspection. These inspectors read and interpret results of inspections to determine product conformance and will have enough knowledge of manufacturing processes to provide detailed feedback on ways to improve product quality. These inspectors work independently and seek little guidance from higher level employees. They will also demonstrate advanced knowledge in AS9102 reporting, including the ability to create reports independently. They will perform First Article, In-Process, and Final Inspection tasks. The successful candidate will have experience performing these inspections in a machine-shop manufacturing environment and have proficient knowledge with GD&T.

This position may support 1st shift (4 : 15am - 12 : 45pm, M - F), 2nd shift (12 : 15pm - 8 : 45pm, M - F), 3rd shift (8 : 15pm - 4 : 45am, Su - Th) operations, or a split shift depending on business needs. The selected individual will train on 1st shift for approximately 3 months, or until able to demonstrate an ability to perform the job with minimal intervention. Shift premiums may apply upon schedule change if applicable.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Utilizing internal / external documents, the inspector will validate the product meets dimensional requirements inside and outside of CNC machines.
  • Perform first article inspections to certify a process will yield a conforming product.
  • Utilize Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) for part inspection.
  • Validate GD&T requirements with manual inspection techniques.
  • Prioritize workflow through Inspection department based on daily shipping list.
  • Conduct visual tests and measurements using appropriate equipment and methods.
  • Perform inspections by measuring various dimensions (length, height, width) using precision instruments, i.e., calipers, micrometers, dial indicator, and / or CMM, etc.
  • Create nonconformance tags and document nonconforming product within the internal MRB software.

  • Perform shop math, fractions, and decimals (basic trigonometry).
  • Perform visual inspections.
  • Use basic inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Navigate a computer to locate and process documents – computer skills.
  • Read and interpret work instructions and blueprints.
  • Analyze information and interpret drawings (ASME Y14.5).
  • Apply metrology techniques and participate in or promote process improvements.
  • The ability to locate reference points on products and measure dimensions using a combination of aids and precision tools.
  • The ability to apply AS9100 standards to the inspection process.
  • Self-motivated and maintain a positive focus and earnest approach in meeting responsibilities and goals.
  • Be a team player and contribute to incident data and problem-solving methods in the MRB process.
  • Maintain area cleanliness and organization within 6S initiatives

  • Experience & Education :

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • 5 years of relevant inspection experience are required.
  • Experience performing First Article, In-Process, and Final Inspection is required.
  • MUST be able to demonstrate the ability to read blueprints and correctly understand how to measure dimensions and calculate tolerances based on GD&T.
  • Experience in manufacturing / machining is required . Automotive, aerospace, or similar industries is preferred .
  • CNC machine shop environment (36" diameter or greater) is preferred .
