Job Description This leadership role reports to the Boulder Site Head and is responsible for leading all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) initiatives for the GMP operations at the Boulder, CO site. The Site Lead will build and drive a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position requires collaboration across Manufacturing, Chemical Development, Analytical QC Labs, Maintenance, and Engineering to design and execute comprehensive EH&S programs (e.g., PSM, Industrial Hygiene, LOTO, and environmental sustainability) that support operations efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate will be an active member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and contribute to strategic and functional decision making. Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement technical safety initiatives that support operations efficiently and on schedule. Design and execute all safety programs that ensure safe, compliant, and effective operation of our operations. Administer the Industrial Hygiene (IH) program, including testing, protocol development, and risk-based IH strategy implementation. Deliver environmental and sustainability programs, including air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste management, and required environmental reporting. Determine if compliance is required for the Process Safety Management (PSM) program. Implement Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and Mechanical Integrity (MI) programs as required. Direct EHS support for site expansion or construction projects, collaborating with project sponsors and support teams. Serve as the EH&S representative supporting the site's functional business units. Continuously enhance the risk assessment process to proactively identify and mitigate enterprise-level risks. Lead and participate in investigations, drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process for safety-related concerns and see mitigation through completion. Support the development and implementation of the site's EHS Management System. Partner with US EH&S teams to implement global initiatives and align site practices with enterprise standards. Serve as an active member of the site's Emergency Response Team (ERT), responding to emergencies within training levels (CPR, First Aid, AED, chemical spill with SCBA). Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP) with annual goals consistent with business priorities (Supervisory). Manage the application and communication of all company policies, procedures, and the Novo Nordisk Way (Supervisory). Perform other duties as assigned to support EH&S and site objectives. Required Experience / Skills Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education & industry experience. Minimum of 10 years of experience in EHS, preferably with roles of increasing responsibility. Minimum of 5 years of leadership / supervisory experience in EHS. Proven ability to develop and implement a Safety Culture. Experience working at a Process Safety Management (PSM) facility. Fluent in principles of EHS, including relevant laws and regulations (air, water, waste permitting, and OSHA reporting requirements). Proven ability to design, develop, and implement EHS Management Systems (safety, environmental, and health programs). Proven expertise in mentoring & staff development, change management, planning, organizing & managing execution. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in diverse environments. Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records and apply scientific principles to technical challenges. High energy, adaptability, resilience, and attention to detail. Readiness to respond to emergencies and lead effectively in critical situations. Nice-to-Haves Master's degree preferred. Experience in research laboratories, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical environments. Familiarity with EH&S Management Systems and applicable ISO and OSHA standards.
