Job description

Pipefitter

As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for laying out, setting up, and connecting piping systems for tunnels, roadways, and drainage systems. You will cut, thread, and groove pipes in accordance with work drawings, construct dimensionally correct mock-ups for off-site prefabrication, and read blueprints to fabricate stands and jigs. You will also construct piping systems, prepare joints for welding, and prepare materials in the shop for tunnel installation. Additionally, you will fabricate and design pipe hangars, move materials to designated work areas, and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, set up, and connect piping systems for tunnels, roadways, and drainage systems.
  • Cut, thread, and groove pipes in correspondence with work drawings.
  • Construct dimensionally correct mock-ups for off-site prefabrication.
  • Read blueprints, fabricate stands and jigs, and create targets.
  • Construct piping systems and prepare joints for welding.
  • Prepare materials in the shop for installation in the tunnel.
  • Perform installation of piping systems into the tunnel.
  • Fabricate and design pipe hangars.
  • Move materials from shop to designated work area inside the tunnel.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures to comply with company, local, state, and / or federal laws.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of pipe fitting experience.
  • Experience with 1-inch to 20-inch diameter pipes.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction, repair, and maintenance of piping systems.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and written instructions.
  • Skill in determining how a system should work and how changes affect outcomes.
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
  • Proven knowledge in determining the kind of tools and equipment needed for job completion.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

    Work Environment

    This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, rain or shine. The work schedule consists of night shifts, 12 hours per night, from Monday to Saturday.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00 / hr.
