Position Summary
We are seeking a versatile Tax Accountant & Bookkeeper to join our growing team. This dual-role position requires a candidate who can manage tax compliance and advisory services while also supporting the accounting team with bookkeeping tasks. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate financial reporting and help clients stay compliant with tax regulations while optimizing their financial performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tax Preparation and Filing :
- Prepare and file individual, corporate, and partnership returns.
- Assist in tax planning and strategy development to minimize liabilities.
- Research and apply current tax regulations to ensure compliance and maximize savings.
- Respond to client inquiries and resolve tax-related issues.
Bookkeeping and Accounting :
Bring the books to the trial balance stageRecord monthly financial transactions and maintain the general ledger.Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts.Prepare periodic financial reports for clients.Assist in payroll processing and related tax filings.Make necessary federal and state tax deposits, and complete the annual tax forms (Forms 941, RT-6, 1099, 1096, W-2, W-3, Sales Tax Report)Analyze and calculate sales taxCollaborate with the accounting team to support end-of-year financial preparation and audits.Client Relations and Advisory :
Communicate regularly with clients to gather necessary tax documents and financial information.Provide advisory services on accounting procedures, tax savings opportunities, and business improvements when necessary.Compliance and Reporting :
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, reporting requirements, and accounting best practices.Support the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.Monitor and improve internal processes to increase efficiency and accuracy in tax and bookkeeping workflows.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skillsAble to work in a fast-paced environmentSolid understanding of bookkeeping and accounting payable / receivable principlesData entry skills along with a knack for numbersProficiency in Office ProductsCustomer Service Orientation and negotiation skillsMust have a flexible schedule during tax season and be able to work half days on Saturdays from February 1st to April 15th, if and when necessary.QuickBooks ProficientTax and external accounting / reporting knowledge preferredMicrosoft Office ProficientEducation & Experience
Required Education : Associate degree3+ years of relevant experienceCPA or EA designation preferred (or in progress). Not a dealbreaker.Proven bookkeeping and tax experienceProven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial recordsHands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software like QuickBooksEnglish : FluentBilingual candidate preferred (English / Spanish)High degree of accuracy and attention to detailCRM experience a plus
