Covert Public Schools is located in Van Buren County, Michigan, home of the Bulldogs. Covert was established in 1865 where rich timberlands initially attracted early settlers to the community. State parks along Lake Michigan provide picnic areas for family get-togethers. Lake Michigan’s summer outdoor recreation opportunities include paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. Winter activities include cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling trails. Activities in between the seasons include biking and hiking trails.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- BA / BS degree in Physical Education required.
- A current State teaching certificate with MC or MX endorsement is required.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students to participate in physical activities and develop healthy lifestyles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
GENERAL DESCRIPTIO N :
The physical education teacher reports directly to the K-12 Principal and will be responsible for the direct instruction of students, possess a passion for physical education, a strong understanding of child development, and the ability to create a fun and engaging environment. The PE teacher will be responsible for promoting physical fitness, motor skills development, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students and provide academic remediation as needed. Anticipated start date is December 9, 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Design and implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum that meets state standards, addresses various skill levels, and incorporates a variety of activities, including sports, gymnastics, dance, and fitness.Deliver engaging and age-appropriate lessons that encourage student participation, skill development, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, physical skills, fitness levels, overall participation, and presentations.Maintain a safe and organized gym environment by following safety protocols, properly handling equipment, and ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe manner.Educate students on the importance of physical activity, nutrition, and healthy habits, fostering a lifelong appreciation for wellness.Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.Maintain a safe and orderly classroom.Develop relationships with students and parents that enhance the learning environment.Communication effectively with parents regarding student achievement and behavior.Continually improve professional practice and engagement activities to maximize skill set to improve student achievement.Work collaboratively with colleagues and administration to meet goals of building / district.Effectively use data to make decisions relevant to instruction.Attend staff meetings and district planned professional development.Maintain complete and accurate student and academic records.Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skills.Follow directives from the principal.Sets an example of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, self- motivation, and self- discipline for students.Comply with School Board policies and all state and federal regulations.Contributes to the district’s success by taking on additional responsibilities as needed.ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS :

COMPENSATION : Salary will be based on the CEA Agreement, with placement determined by years of relevant experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also included in accordance with district policy and the collective bargaining agreement.
