About Coach Across America
Founded in 2010, Coach Across America is a national nonprofit organization focused on the power of coaches to transform the lives of our nations most vulnerable youth, and the communities they live in, through sports. Coach Across America is based on the simple premise that highly trained coaches can be among the most transformative adults in young peoples lives and inspire their success on the field, in the classroom, and in life. Coach Across America partners with local non-profits, schools, and sports organizations to support and train AmeriCorps coaches for a one year service term to work in underserved communities. Our AmeriCorps coaches participate in Sports-Based Youth Development training that emphasize the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills needed to help youth reach their full potential.
About America SCORES Cleveland
America SCORES Cleveland (SCORES) programming utilizes a team-based learning approach that takes place in a safe and trusting environment. The sport of soccer is used as the catalyst to target social-emotional learning, build literacy skills, develop healthy habits, and empower youth to become more academically and civically engaged.
Responsibilities will include:
Assist program staff in providing high quality youth sports development and literacy programming
Lead team of 16 students in soccer and social emotional learning programming
Assist or substitute for America SCORES soccer or writing coaches as needed
Distribute and collect supplies from our school partners (uniforms, evaluations, etc.)
Communicate regularly with coaches at the schools to ensure program quality
Attend and participate in coach trainings
Assist with the collection and inputting of program evaluation data
Assist with student-centered service-learning projects throughout the community
Oversee game day logistics and referee soccer games (Thursday afternoon)
Assist in the planning of the America SCORES Cleveland youth events
Lead soccer camps during the summer and winter (occasionally on weekends)
Requirements
Some experience supporting youth programming
Access to reliable transportation, as program sites are scattered throughout Cleveland - Excellent organizational ability and ability to work well under pressure
Strong communication and interpersonal skills among diverse groups
Must be available on Thursdays for Game Days from 2PM to 7PM
Must be available during after-school programming hours Monday through Wednesday from 2PM to 5PM
AmeriCorps Eligibility & Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old.
AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
Must have, or be working towards a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
Other requirements as required.
Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:
Completion of the minimum required hours (900) of service and training by the last day of coach contract.
Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
Attend/participate in Coach Across America orientation, trainings, meetings, service days, and special initiatives.
Must wear Coach Across America branded t-shirts with AmeriCorps logo when coaching and at program sessions and events.
Service Dates & Hours:
Monday through Wednesday 1PM - 5PM; Thursday 1-7PM
Living Allowance/Stipend: $12,150 total (Paid bi-weekly)
Education Award: $3,697.50 upon completing 900 hours, usable for education-related expenses.
