American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring AZ or compact licensure, ACLS, and strong critical care skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a hospital acute care setting within the ICUIntensive Care service line includes CVICU (12 beds), COVID ICU (8 beds), Medical / Surgical ICU (8 beds), and PCU (16-20 beds)Nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 1-2 in ICU based on acuity and staffing; PCU ratios are 1 : 3-4Typical patient population includes cardiac surgery, COVID-19 with manual proning, low-level neuro, sepsis, DKA, post-MI, CRRT, ARF, VAD, Impella, and fresh open heartUse of advanced equipment such as art lines, SWAN, EVD, chest tubes, Nihon Khoden tele monitors, ventilators, BIPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and VapothermNight shifts with 12-hour shifts, schedule made four weeks in advance, and required two weekend shifts per pay periodFloating required to PCU and MST, and to other critical care units as neededCerner EMR is used on this unit and EMR documentation is requiredNo nurse aides or tele / monitor techs on unit; RNs read their own tele stripsRNs will titrate all critical care drips and care for fresh open heart patients if skills permitIntensivists are in-house 24 / 7 for support; NPs supplement coverageCharge nurses do not typically take assignments, but may assist if needed; two charge nurses typically present between ICU and PCUMandatory orientation includes 8 hours of general orientation and one 12-hour precepted shift, plus a buddy shiftOn-call status may occur due to low census, but is not routinely scheduledAny color professional scrubs permitted, with transition to navy scrubs in October; camo scrubs not allowedHoliday coverage is required, typically one major holiday and one holiday eve per winter seasonFirst time travelers will be considered for this position\n \n Requirements\n
Active AZ or compact RN license at time of consideration; pending licenses are not acceptedCurrent ACLS and BLS certifications are requiredMinimum 2 years of recent ICU experience requiredStrong EKG reading skills and experience with titrating critical care drips including pressors, paralytics, sedation, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and argatrobanExperience with mechanical ventilation, ABG interpretation, and troubleshooting / weaning ventilatorsAbility to care for a broad ICU population and float within critical care unitsPrefer experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRTMust pass a dysrhythmia exam with 80% within two attempts prior to contract start; failure results in ineligibility for 6 monthsTravelers must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity facility in the past yearCandidate must live at least 50 miles from the facility\n Benefits\n
