CHA has recently opened a new inpatient center for youth with acute behavioral health needs, accommodating children aged 3-12 and adolescents aged 13-17. Our Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Somerville is focused on providing a transformative continuum of patient and family-centered care for diverse youth experiencing mental health challenges.
The 6 East and 6 West Child Unit is a 21 bed secured psychiatric unit dedicated to caring for children between the ages of 3 and 11. Located at our CHA Somerville Campus, our multi-disciplinary team emphasizes a trauma-informed, patient and family-centered approach that includes ongoing efforts towards restraint reduction, assessment, stabilization, and aftercare treatment planning.
Job Purpose
The Milieu Counselor plays a vital role as a member of our multidisciplinary team. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will ensure a safe and structured environment while attending to the individual needs of patients in crisis within our inpatient psychiatric setting.
As a Milieu Counselor, your responsibilities will include assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), leading or co-leading therapeutic groups, performing safety checks, conducting one-on-one meetings with patients, and accurately recording vital signs and measurements. You will also notify the registered nurse of any changes in patients' conditions and support their nutritional and hydration needs, all while executing tasks as assigned by the charge nurse.
Qualifications / Experience :
High school diploma required; B.A., B.S., or M.A. preferred or equivalent years of human service experience.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Prior human services, behavioral, or psychiatric experience strongly preferred; inpatient psychiatric experience is a plus.
