Job Description

The Ion endoluminal system is Intuitive's new robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy in theperipheral lung, with an initial goal of improving the early diagnosis of lung cancer. The Ion R&D team islooking for a gifted engineer to contribute to our PlanPoint software and robot navigation, which togetherguide our physician users through the 3D structure of the lung, to take a biopsy at a target location.As a senior machine learning engineer on the Ion project, you will join a small team of experts in medicalimaging, robotics, and software. You will play a lead technical role, working to conceptualize, design, andevaluate new solutions for medical image insights. You will contribute across the product developmentlife cycle, taking algorithm concepts from initial prototypes to production software.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced, start-up-like business unit
• Develop new algorithms and software implementations for image segmentation, classification, registration, etc.
• Prototype and iterate on designs, develop tests, and deliver high-quality software in Python or C++
• Participate in failure mode assessment, to identify and implement robust hazard mitigation strategies
• Maintain practical knowledge of state-of-the-art medical imaging research literature
