Havenwood Academy is a residential treatment center in Cedar City, Utah, dedicated to helping teenage girls heal from trauma. Many of our students are adoptees who carry deep emotional and relational wounds. Our mission is simple but powerful : rewire the traumatized brain through positive, trust-based relationships and experiences.

Recreation therapy is one of the most effective tools we use. Activities such as climbing, ropes courses, or equine work challenge students in ways that feel risky but are safe, and with the right guidance, those moments of stress turn into breakthroughs for healing.

The Role

We are seeking a Recreational Therapist to design and lead a trauma-informed program that builds resilience, confidence, and connection. You'll plan and facilitate weekly groups, track progress, and collaborate with the clinical team. Every activity should have a clear purpose, support therapeutic goals, and be followed by thoughtful debriefing.

This role is hands-on, energetic, and central to our mission. You'll be serving all students each week, ensuring safety, and helping each young woman learn healthier ways to cope, connect, and grow.

Responsibilities

• Provide a minimum of 1.5 hours of recreation therapy per student each week.
• Complete assessments within 14 days of intake.
• Plan and lead purposeful activities (outdoor, creative, sports, experiential) that support therapeutic growth.
• Facilitate group debriefs to help students reflect and apply lessons learned.
• Document progress notes within 24 hours of each session.
• Track and report outcomes monthly; participate in treatment team meetings.
• Ensure physical and emotional safety during all activities.
• Provide Saturday programming.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries and uphold professional / ethical standards.

Requirements :

Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or related field (preferred).

CTRS certification (preferred).

Ability to pass a DHS background check, drug test, and TB screening.

Experience with recreation therapy in residential or clinical settings (preferred).
