Sr. Machine Learning Engineer – Context Engineering
This role is part of GEICO’s AI organization, focused on building the virtual assistant platform that enhances productivity for internal associates and the customer experience for millions of policyholders. The selected candidate will design, develop, and deploy high performance AI / ML platform components that underpin generative AI agentic workflows, ensuring scalability, reliability, and usability across the organization.
Base pay range
$115,000.00 / yr - $230,000.00 / yr

Responsibilities
Own development of key platform components that power end-to-end GenAI agentic workflows, including knowledge curation and management, search, contextual management, and workflow orchestration.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams—data scientists, ML engineers, software engineers, product managers, and designers—to gather requirements, define scope, and prioritize feature backlogs that deliver high impact business value.
Contribute to the selection, evaluation, and implementation of software technologies, tools, and frameworks, balancing build versus buy decisions and speed to market.
Lead a small team of engineers on feature and system implementation, troubleshooting complex software issues to ensure optimal platform performance and reliability.
Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and design sessions, fostering a high‑performance team culture and elevating AI engineering best practices across the company.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years designing and building AI / ML platforms using technologies such as vector databases (e.g., Qdrant, Milvus), data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake), streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka), relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), knowledge graphs (e.g., Neo4j), and workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Temporal).
Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar general‑purpose programming languages.
3+ years managing end‑to‑end software development life cycle for backend systems and APIs, including CI / CD pipelines, Kubernetes deployments, testing, monitoring, and production support.
2+ years building training, finetuning, real‑time / batch inference, and evaluation systems for AI / ML models and LLMs, preferably on GPU‑powered infrastructure.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years building enterprise‑level semantic knowledge‑graph capabilities, including ontology creation, knowledge ingestion, graph‑query‑based feature engineering, and related workflows.
2+ years finetuning open‑source LLMs such as Llama, Mistral, or Claude to create conversational experiences and agentic workflows.
Strong communication and problem‑solving skills for dynamic, cross‑functional decision‑making.
