Public Works Employee
The Public Works Employee has a versatile and essential role responsible for maintaining and improving Mt. Pleasant City's public infrastructure. This includes work on culinary and secondary water systems, sewer systems, roads, buildings, grounds, the cemetery, shop tasks, snow removal, and other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
1. Water Systems :
- Maintain and repair culinary and secondary water systems, including pipelines, pumps, valves, and meters.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards in water system operations.
2. Sewer Systems :
Inspect, maintain, and repair sewer lines, lift stations, and related infrastructure.Respond promptly to sewer emergencies to minimize service disruption.3. Road Maintenance :
Perform road repairs, including pothole patching and general road maintenance.Assist with traffic control setup for work zones.4. Buildings and Grounds :
Perform general maintenance and repairs for city-owned buildings and facilities.Maintain parks, public spaces, and landscaping as needed.5. Cemetery Operations :
Assist with grave digging, ground maintenance, and burial setup.Maintain the appearance and upkeep of cemetery grounds.6. Shop Work :
Conduct equipment and vehicle maintenance and repairs.Maintain the organization and inventory of tools and supplies.7. Snow Removal :
Operate snowplows and other equipment to clear roads, sidewalks, and public areas during winter.Apply de-icing agents as needed to ensure public safety.8. General Duties :
Complete tasks as assigned by the Public Works Director or other supervisors.Participate in special projects and respond to emergencies as required.Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent.Valid Utah driver's license and CDL (Commercial Driver's License).Completion of an apprenticeship program through Rural Water and all other classes required by Rural Water.Certification in water and sewer systems (or ability to achieve certification as part of training).Experience in public works, construction, or a related field is preferred.Basic knowledge of plumbing, mechanics, and landscaping.Ability to operate heavy machinery such as backhoes, loaders, and snowplows.Strong physical condition to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.Effective communication and teamwork skills.Work Environment :
Work may involve exposure to loud noise, hazardous materials, and varying weather conditions.Physical activities include lifting heavy objects, standing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
