Job description

Location : Amityville, NY

Shift : Monday 7am-3pm, Wednesday-Saturday 3pm-11pm

Schedule : Full-Time (40 hours / week) + Overtime opportunities

Pay : $21.50-$22.50 / hour + hourly bilingual differential for Spanish / English new hires

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and teens? We're looking for a dedicated Senior Residential Counselor to join our residential team at Hope For Youth in a non-secure youth detention program. In this role, you'll support young people through challenging times, help create a safe and structured environment, and lead by example for both residents and staff on your shift.

To qualify for this job you need to be or have at minimum :

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid NYS driver's license in good standing
  • Ability to :
  • work flexible schedule
  • Lift / move up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Escort residents into the community and to appointments to service providers as needed
  • Physically restrain a child or youth during a crisis situation (TCI Training is provided with focus on de-escalation techniques)
  • Read / write reports and log entries, repetitive wrist / finger movements
  • Operate a motor vehicle carrying up to 10 children and youth
  • Support other projects as needed within the Residential Department
  • Open to supervision and able to work as part of a team
  • Role model appropriately; nurture, teach, and structure daily living setting
  • Organize activities and engage youth throughout the shift
  • Support the overall mission of Hope For Youth
