The Board of Licensure in Medicine protects the health, safety and welfare of Maine citizens through the licensing and regulation of allopathic physicians (MD) and Physician Associates (PA). The Board is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented candidate to help fulfill its mission by timely processing applications for licensure.

The Maine Department of Professional and Financial Regulation Board of Licensure in Medicine ("Board") seeks an Office Specialist II.

Primary responsibilities include :

  • Process original and renewal license applications filed with the Board for physicians and physician associates, including entering license information and fee payments into the Agency License Management System (ALMS)
  • Liaise with the Federation of State Medical Boards to develop enhancements to uniform applications for licensure
  • Verify identity, education and training of applicants for licensure, including use of the Federation Credentials Verification Service
  • Explaining the Board's applicable statutes, rules and processes to applicants for licensure
  • Prepare memos and reports to the Board regarding license issues
  • Present certain license applications to the Board for review and action
  • Prepare and send correspondence related to licensure issues

To be successful in the position you must have knowledge of and experience in :

  • Applicable agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedure
  • Ability to analyze problems, reach logical conclusions and make sound decisions
  • Office related software; including Word, Excel, Access, and ALMS
  • Website management and updates
  • Effective communication with staff, state officials and the public at large
  • Writing clearly and effectively
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Training, education or experience in administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks at the statewide level that are broad in scope or functionally diverse and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative and decision making on complex administrative matters. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of : Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, Office Associate I, Office Associate II and Office Specialist I.
