RECREATIONAL THERAPIST / COTA - SENIOR CARE UNIT

BASIC FUNCTION :
Plan, implement and evaluate Recreational Therapy Services in accordance with a comprehensive assessment to meet the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being, as well as individualized needs and interests of patients. The therapist will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
JOB DUTIES :
1. Provide clinical services including one-to-one treatments, group and co-treatments with other disciplines.
2. Conduct assessments, interviews and chart reviews with patients and / or family members.
3. Plan and development programs and treatment sessions.
4. Communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary team.
5. Maintain documentation such as assessments, treatment / progress notes, care plans, and daily charting.
6. Implement treatment interventions based on client’s assessed needs, abilities, preferences and limitations.
7. Evaluate efficacy and effectiveness of treatment interventions in relation to client progress.
8. Comply with Federal and State regulations, as well as professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
9. Attend meetings as part of the interdisciplinary team.
10. Provide consultation to the nursing staff in providing physical, cognitive, emotional / behavioral, leisure and social interventions to clients.
11. Supervise Therapeutic Recreation Students and Interns.
12. Assist in quality projects and program evaluations as necessary.
13. Educate and advocate for Recreational Therapy and Therapeutic Recreation programs.
14. Attend and participate in professional workshops, conferences, and / or seminars to keep abreast of recent research and techniques.
15. Follow all policies and procedures in appropriate manuals, colleague handbook and safety guidelines.
16. Evaluate and recommend new equipment, techniques and procedures as requested. May be involved in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
17. Other duties as assigned.
18. Orientation of new recreational therapist.
19. Responsible for checking e-mails and online learning and assignments on a regular basis.

AGE APPROPRIATE CARE :
Colleague has been instructed in providing customer service and on interacting with age groups as related to the department's general client population : including use of appropriate interventions, communication and skills to match the age and / or abilities of the patient / family.
EQUIPMENT :
1. Utilize the telephone system correctly.
2. Demonstrates correct use of the computer
3. Demonstrates correct use of the FAX machine and copier.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE :
1. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or Recreation with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreational Therapy and / or a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.
2. Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) ™ by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification®, or eligible to take the exam.
3. Experience working with older adult clients and psych experience preferred.
4. Maintains B.L.S certification or obtained within 3 months of hire.
5. Must be computer literate to complete task(s) as required. Such as MediTech (Hospital Support Software), Halogen (performance appraisal system) Relias (education system), ability to retrieve e-mails, complete online enrollment for health insurance / benefits and any other programs as assigned.
6. Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation (CIDE) certification within three months of hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
2. Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and push up to 350 pounds, rolling.
3. Requires the ability to do considerable amount of walking, stooping, bending, kneeling and lifting.
4. Requires corrected vision and hearing.
5. Requires fluency in the English language
6. Requires dexterity and manual skills for patient handling and training.
7. Requires the ability to sit for administrative work and some pushing and pulling of equipment.
