Department Information

The Haider Lab in the Dept. of Biomedical engineering (BME) at Georgia Tech seeks a highly organized and motivated individual for a Research Technician position. The main responsibilities of the position will be: 1) organization, design, and procurement of equipment and reagents that enable in vivo electrical and optical recordings from mice engaged in behavioral tasks, and 2) maintenance, husbandry, and health monitoring of a transgenic mouse colony. 3) assistance in training of transgenic mice (including models of neurological disease) in sophisticated visual perception tasks.

The position offers significant opportunities for direct involvement in cutting-edge research exploring brain circuits controlling behavior. The PI and senior lab staff will directly train and enable the technician in all aspects of these roles and support professional growth and career development.

Job Summary

The Research Technician is responsible for supporting scientific research projects by conducting experiments, collecting data, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. This position requires a strong understanding of research methodologies and protocols, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers and contribute to the advancement of knowledge within the field.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1-Conduct experiments and research activities according to established protocols and methodologies to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data collected.

Job Duty 2-Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring that all instruments are calibrated and functioning properly to support ongoing research projects.

Job Duty 3-Collect, record, and analyze data meticulously, using appropriate software and statistical methods to contribute to the research findings.

Job Duty 4-Assist in the preparation of research materials, including reagents, samples, and solutions, following precise formulations and safety protocols.

Job Duty 5-Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation, including experiment logs, inventory lists, and safety compliance reports, to uphold regulatory standards.

Job Duty 6-Participate in training sessions for new laboratory personnel, providing guidance on equipment usage, safety procedures, and research protocols.

Job Duty 7-Monitor laboratory safety practices by conducting routine inspections and ensuring compliance with institutional safety regulations and guidelines.

Job Duty 8-Stay current on advancements in research techniques and technologies by engaging in professional development opportunities and attending relevant workshops or conferences.

Job Duty 9-Collaborate with principal investigators and other research team members to develop project plans and timelines, ensuring that milestones are met, and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational School Diploma/Degree.

Required Experience
No prior relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a BS and/or MS in a neuroscience-related discipline (Neurobiology, Cell biology, Pharmacology, Cognitive Science)

Experience in behavioral training and/or husbandry of animals (preferably rodents).

Quantitative skills (data analysis, MATLAB programming) are also desirable, but not required.

This position would be ideal for a recent graduate of a neuroscience program, or someone seeking to transition to systems neuroscience from a related field.

Proposed Salary

Salary Range: $30,237-$50,000 (Commensurate with experience).
