Farm Manager Broiler Operation
The Farm Manager Broiler Operation is responsible for overseeing the daily management, production, and maintenance of the broiler (chicken) farm. This position ensures that all operations align with the organization's mission, sustainability goals, and community engagement initiatives. The Farm Manager will supervise staff, coordinate volunteers, manage budgets, and ensure that poultry production is efficient, safe, humane, and compliant with all biosecurity and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Farm Operations & Production
Oversee all aspects of broiler production including feeding, watering, environmental control, and flock management.
Monitor bird health, growth rates, and feed conversion efficiency to ensure optimal performance.
Plan, implement, and manage production schedules, including flock rotation, cleaning, and restocking.
Maintain accurate records of feed inventory, bird weights, mortality, and production data.
Implement and enforce biosecurity, animal welfare, and sanitation protocols.
Maintain and operate farm equipment, ventilation systems, and housing infrastructure.
Ensure compliance with agricultural, environmental, and food safety regulations.
Staff & Volunteer Management
Supervise and train farm workers, seasonal employees, and volunteers.
Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
Develop and manage work schedules to ensure efficiency and productivity.
Provide hands-on leadership, technical support, and mentorship to team members.
Planning & Administration
Develop and manage farm budgets, track expenses, and oversee procurement of feed, equipment, and supplies.
Collect and analyze production data to improve efficiency and sustainability.
Support strategic planning, grant reporting, and data collection for program evaluation.
Community Engagement & Education
Support educational initiatives and partnerships related to agriculture, sustainability, and food systems.
Assist with on-site events, tours, and workshops to promote awareness of poultry production and community-based agriculture.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of poultry management, including broiler production systems and animal husbandry.
Experience supervising staff and coordinating volunteers.
Ability to operate and maintain farm machinery, ventilation, and irrigation systems.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
Schedule
Typical schedule is Monday Friday, with some weekends and evenings required during production cycles or special events.
