Purpose

The purpose of the Prototype Technician is to provide support for new product introductions. This includes providing components that are to be used in the verification phase of a new product. Ensuring that the components meet manufacturing standards are cost effective, and safe. The Technician shall promote and adopt the continuous improvement culture by focusing on problem solving to drive improvements in the organization's safety, quality, operational performance, customer satisfaction, and overall financial health of the company.

Responsibilities

Assure safe, high quality, cost effective, environmentally responsible prototype components to support the development of new products in the machine division. Provide feedback to the supporting engineers to continue to provide the best product to our end customers.

Technicians are expected to be able to handle small to medium sized projects and day-to-day shop support with some supervision. Assignments may be routine or non-routine and will typically involve a mix of analysis and hands-on activities. Larger projects and more technically challenging work will need to be supported by more experienced people inside or outside the department. They are typically supervised by an Engineer level 3 or higher. Supervisors will determine the assignments.

Typical assignments may include but are not limited to :

Program and operate sheet metal laser cutting machine

Program and operate sheet metal bend break

General Assembly

Continuous Improvement initiatives

Work with production to drive the manufacture of components

Other assignments as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Technician III : Vocational training and 5+ years of experience in a relevant work environment is required; or High School Diploma / GED with 7+ years experience in a relevant work environment.

Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS)

Understand the Company's EHS Policy and how it relates to this job.

Be aware of OSHA and EPA laws and regulations as well as the Company's Plant Rules and Regulations that pertain to this job.

Work in a safe manner and observe all company EHS and JHA procedures.

Follow safe equipment operating procedures and only operate equipment when guards are in place and in good condition.

Know that the company EHS procedures are contained in reference books, such as SSW Specifications, Plant Rules and Regulations, and Material Safety Data Sheets, which are located in the Department Supervisor's area.

Immediately notify the Supervisor if there is any safety hazard, any equipment not operating correctly, or if there are any questions regarding EHS and JHA procedures.

Training Requirements

Additional training in OP114, OP191, OP203, applicable work instructions and any others as needed.

Additional training in 5S, Lean, Root Cause Analysis, Process Mapping as required.
