The City of Janesville Wisconsin is looking for a part-time transit bus operator. The position offers a salary of $22.66 hourly and is located in Janesville, WI.

This position operates a transit bus on designated routes in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner. With the exception of completing training, this position is only scheduled for job assignments associated with operating routes before and after school, resulting in no scheduled work hours during school breaks and in the summer.

The incumbent must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors :

• Excellent communication skills, paired with a strong customer service background, and effective interpersonal skills.
• Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination including drug screen.
• Ability to identify and report vehicle defects.
• Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to supervisor.
• Ability to keep daily record of completed tasks.
• Ability to effectively learn and use Information Technology processes aboard the bus, such as tablets for inspections and fare collection.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with Transit Director, Assistant Transit Director, Transit Operations Supervisor, division supervisors and employees and general public.
• Ability to interact positively with a diverse group of individuals, and work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
• Ability to embrace and actively promote an inclusive and equitable work environment.
• Ability to be reliable, timely, and proactive in the completion of duties.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in both indoor and outdoor environments and may, on occasion, be exposed to adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and extreme cold, high winds, and wet / humid conditions. This position spends the majority of their work day sitting and driving a municipal transit bus. This position occasionally walks, stands, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, and exerts up to 50 pounds of force by lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects. The employee is frequently required to see / observe, talk / speak, and listen / hear; use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects and equipment; repetitive arm, wrist, hand and eye movements are included. There is frequent twisting, reaching, wrist turning, and grasping. The employee may be required to climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment. Employee is required to use cognitive ability to reason, analyze, and verbalize thoughts and ideas. Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials or tasks. Noise exposure is moderate passenger conversation, diesel engine noise, automobile traffic noise, two-way radio conversation.
