Job description

Position Summary

Temple University’s College of Education and Human Development invites applications for an open-rank, non-tenure track position in Early and Elementary Education with a concentration in either STEM or literacy within the College of Education and Human Development, beginning July 1, 2026. We seek an outstanding scholar teacher who will contribute to our mission of academic excellence and inclusive education. Early and Elementary Education (EEE) is our largest teacher preparation program, and it requires students to have a number of high-quality field experiences throughout the program, culminating in two semesters of student teaching.

Rank . This position is open ranked. Initial appointments of candidates who have not attained a terminal degree will be made at the rank of instructor.  For early career applicants  (i.e., assistant professors), preferred candidates will have completed a Ph.D. or Ed.D. and have teaching experience.  For midcareer and senior applicants  (associate professor and full professors), preferred candidates shall have at least 5 years of experience post degree and experience teaching. Candidates at more senior ranks should demonstrate as having developed initiatives that grow a program and / or having displayed leadership in areas related to the classroom, such as clinical experiences.

Education & Experience . The candidate should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a related field. In addition, the person should have experience in early or elementary classrooms. The candidate should have experience in multiple course delivery modalities including online or hybrid.

The compelling candidate will be able to provide high-quality coaching for both EEE student teachers as well as their supervisors. The candidate will have experience with program coordination in higher education contexts as well as expertise to address program goals aligned with the mission of the CEHD. They will also have experience working in early childhood or elementary contexts. Candidates for this position should have experience teaching courses in high-need areas such as STEM and / or literacy and will be able to demonstrate expertise in at least one of these high-needs areas.

In addition to teaching courses and supervising students and supervisors in the field, the responsibilities of the position include participating in department, college, and professional service activities.

The Department of Teaching & Learning (TEAL) is dedicated to preparing new teachers who are equipped with evidence-based knowledge and skills to enable all children to achieve high academic standards and develop as adults who can meaningfully contribute to society. At Temple, our work with preservice teachers, in-service teachers, and doctoral students is grounded in the belief that education is a primary mechanism for social mobility and social justice.
