Job Description
- Responsible for performing clerical functions for a patient care unit facilitating the flow of information between medical and nursing staff to maximize unit efficiency. Acts as a resource person between ancillary departments and patient care unit. Utilizes the hospital wide computer system for order entry, admission, transfer and discharge functions (ADT)
Responsibilities
Transcribes LIP orders into the computer. Coordinates lab / diagnostic tests for patients, facilitates computerized orders and paperwork to order medical treatments and tests. Retrieves lab and diagnostic results of patients.Coordinates activities of the area with other services such as, but not limited to, pharmacy, lab, dietary, radiology, cardiology, security, housekeeping and maintenance.Performs receptionist duties, manages multiple phone lines and responds to the patient call system. Communicates with patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians, ancillary departments and acts as receptionist to unit.Facilitates the patient admission / transfer / discharge process through Collaboration with co-workers and ancillary services and patients logistics department.Maintains medical record and files interdepartmental data and reports in the appropriate section of the medical record. Redirects report of patients not present to the appropriate department. Demonstrates skill in computer function / printer use.Inputs data appropriately into manual and computerized systems related to the management of the patient care unit.Answers call bells in a timely manner and ensures issue resolution.Is alert to , and identifies safety hazards, communicates safety issues with appropriate department and Nurse Manager / charge nurse. Follows through with Nurse Manager on safety issues.Maintains unit par levels of forms and equipment.Meets all required competencies for department, unit and / or hospital.Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.Special ProjectsQualifications
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience preferred. Work requires the ability to gather and interpret data in situation where the information or problems are not overly difficult or complex. Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters.About Us
