Hourly Wage : $20.10 / Regular / Full-Time

Under the direction and supervision of the Garret Lee Smith Project Manager, this position is responsible for the implementation, organization, and coordination of the Garret Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention Grant, goals, objectives, activities, and initiatives based on the outcome of defined community needs of youth residing on the Yakama Reservation. Will work with individuals, families, elders, community, and groups of youth, to assure their unique needs are addressed in community, schools, cultural and recreational settings. Supplements and complements other tribal efforts geared for reservation youth (i.e., health promotions, academic growth, cultural enrichment, inter-generational linkages, etc.).

Examples of Work Performed :

Responsible for implementing, organizing, and facilitating to the activities related to the SAMHSA Garret Lee Smith grants goals and objectives.

Solicit and coordinate community members to participate in grant activities, trainings, and workshops.

Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness based on participant input.

Work with / or in cooperation with outside agencies in the development and implementation of suicide intervention and prevention program activities in their respective community i.e., Sources of Strength, ASIST, QPR, Mental Health First Aide

Supplement and complement other Tribal program efforts geared toward addressing suicide prevention activities.

Communicate with members of the Prevention Team and Suicide Coalition to provide input regarding program updates, changes, and issues.

Promote awareness of suicide prevention, treatment services, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and through multimedia outreach at community gatherings that focus on youth.

Using multimedia to create newsletters, local newspapers, radio, and web-based social networks to create public services messages, i.e., warning signs of someone needing help due to suicide ideations.

Create, manage, and maintain social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

Host gatherings for youth in all districts on grants curriculum, soliciting participation from the youth and their family members.

Organize and host information booths at public gatherings.

Enhance suicide identification at a point of entry contact into programs using the suicide threat assessment.

Responsible to maintain and submit monthly calendars of grant program activities, organization, meetings, collateral contacts, and progress.

Responsible to maintain and submit reporting forms of challenges, successes, collateral contacts, and the in-kind activities, including all back up documentation, i.e., minutes of meetings, sign-in sheets, flyers, posters, and other pertinent documentation.

Promotes inter-generational linkages with youth and community elders and members.

Engage and assist youth in obtaining alternate support for activities.

Respond to the needs of high-risk youth (including personal and environmental risks) and high achieving (academic, leadership) populations.

Promote cultural practices, traditions, and customs of the Yakama Nation.

Maintain awareness of other community and youth activities and events in conjunction with the schools, community centers, youth group organizations calendars, school calendars, tribal programs, and other community events.

Supplements and compliments other tribal efforts geared for reservation youth and community (i.e., health promotions, academic growth, cultural enrichment, and inter-generational).

May work non-standard hours for events and / or responding to the needs of the youth of the Yakama Reservation.

Provide training regarding suicide prevention.

May provide transportation for patients, youth, or community members.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Knowledge of working with youth, elders, and community members on sensitive issues i.e., suicide, bullying, etc.

Knowledge of working with grants, objectives, and activities to maintain contractual compliance.

Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies of suicide prevention and bullying.

Knowledge of cultural diversity of the Yakama Reservation.

Knowledge of social and health services agencies of the Yakama Nation and adjacent communities as a resource to youth, elders, and community members of the Yakama Nation.

Knowledge of using different types of media, i.e., radio, newsletters, social media, newspaper, and articles.

Ability to recruit participants in grant activities to meet the objectives and goals.

Ability to work independently, and in a team capacity.

Ability to interact with schools, Tribal programs, community partners and governmental agencies on sensitive issues, i.e., suicide, bullying, etc.

Knowledge, skills, and ability to complete required documentation of activities, objectives, and goals.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to train individuals and / or large groups of people.

Minimum Requirements :

Minimum of an Associate's Degree or; minimum of two years of working with youth in a community organizational capacity.

Ability to pass pre-employment background check.

Must possess Washington State Driver's License and proof of insurance.

Required to maintain strict confidentiality.

Must be eligible for Tribal Insurance.

Must have own reliable transportation.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Requirements :

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
