Job Function :
Performs skilled work in the location of existing water, sewer and reclaimed mains within the City’s utility service area; requiring the location of the City’s utilities to be provided within three days of receipt of the request. The employee performs inspections of the installations of water, sewer, reuse, storm water and roads for new subdivisions as required. The employee provides initial management and coordination to other employees during an emergency utility repair when the Collections Supervisor and / or Distribution Supervisor have not arrived on site yet. The employee ensures that all steps are taken to minimize property damage and prevent the City from violating DEP rules when possible. The employee notifies the Director of Utilities and Plant Operations if the situation may cause serious property damage or a large area of the City will be without water or sewer for any given length of time. The employee is the main contact person for all utility location questions. Frequently, other utilities often contact the employee outside of regular working hours to perform emergency locates when problems arise within their systems. Emergency locates are required to be performed within two (2) hours of notification. The employee will work directly for the Director of Utilities and Plant Operations. The employee will have a great latitude in setting a schedule and prioritizing tasks.
