Role Overview :
We are seeking an experienced, proactive Grant Writer to lead and manage grant and funding applications that support our research and development. This includes applying to public funding bodies in the UK and EU, but also foundations and family offices who support nature and biodiversity work.
Your focus will be on winning funding for large-scale research and innovation projects—especially those focused on supporting innovation in nature and biodiversity analysis and enabling scalable ecological data collection across the globe.
Key Responsibilities :
- Identify relevant grant and funding opportunities across the UK, EU, and philanthropic sectors.
- Identify and apply for relevant competitions.
- Lead the full lifecycle of grant applications : from concept, writing, and budgeting through to submission.
- Work with internal domain experts to shape compelling proposals backed by scientific and technical credibility.
- Manage timelines, eligibility checks, consortium building (where needed), and coordination with partners.
- Develop clear narratives that align with funders’ priorities while positioning Pivotal as a high-impact, credible leader in nature intelligence.
- Track and report on applications, feedback, and outcomes to inform ongoing funding strategy.
Who We’re Looking For :
Proven track record of successful grant writing—especially to : Innovate UK, Horizon Europe / Horizon 2020, Philanthropic foundations & donors.Deep familiarity with environmental or related, science-driven funding contexts.Excellent writing, structuring, and communication skills.Ability to work cross-functionally, drawing in expertise from different areas of the business to develop strong proposals.Confident working independently and managing complex applications.Capable of translating technical / scientific work into compelling, fundable narratives.Desirable (but not required) :
Scientific or technical background in ecology, biodiversity, nature, climate, or related field.Experience managing grants post-award (reporting, compliance, budgeting).Existing networks in UK or EU environmental research and innovation ecosystems.Why Join Us?
