Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Telemetry position on a busy acute care unit requiring at least 2 years of recent experience and an AZ or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 49-bed Medical / Surgical Telemetry unit
  • Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, post-cath, and total joint replacement cases
  • Patient ratios are typically 1 : 5
  • RNs are required to interpret and sign telemetry strips at least once per shift
  • Equipment used includes BiPap, CPAP, and various respiratory treatments
  • Uses Cerner EMR system with one day of unit-specific orientation
  • Night shifts are 12 hours (7p-7a), with every other weekend required
  • Schedules are created in 4-week blocks with self-scheduling, finalized by management
  • May float to the East Campus or PCU if qualified
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Provide care for a diverse population with a variety of complex medical and telemetry needs
  • RNs must regularly utilize advanced respiratory equipment as part of patient care
  • At least one charge nurse and house supervisor support the unit; nurse aides are available with ratios of 1 : 10-15
  • One-day orientation is provided before independent assignment
  • First to float policy applies to travelers
  • Holiday coverage is required, including major winter holidays with a mix of days and eves
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Candidates must present a valid driver’s license at consideration

    • Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med / Surg Telemetry RN experience required
  • Ability to read basic tele strips and experience with CVA and TIA cases required
  • Recommended to have Cerner experience due to limited orientation time
  • Experience with total joint replacement patients preferred
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia (telemetry) exam with at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • May not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
