AthenaPsych is a New York State mental health-approved provider of community mental health services for children, adults, and families with behavioral and emotional challenges. We specialize in individual and group psychotherapy for clients with a focus on trauma-informed care. Athena is dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of mental health care for all, especially individuals from underserved communities.

The Associate Clinical Director supports the Clinical Director in leading Athena’s clinical team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role is instrumental in improving program quality and operational efficiency through collaboration, data-informed decision-making, and clinical oversight.

Responsibilities :

  • Respond to clinically-related questions from clinical and administrative staff to ensure good patient care.
  • Facilitate efforts to ensure collaboration among multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Coordinate care between service lines.
  • Monitor clinical quality outcomes and KPI data as specified by the Clinical Director.
  • Conduct audits of clinical data to inform quality improvement needs.
  • Manage Athena’s High Risk Committee (HRC) and HRC-related tasks.
  • Work with the Clinical Director to cover administrative tasks and team meetings, as needed.
  • Provide support for new and onboarding clinicians.
  • Monitor patient care quality and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Assist with the performance evaluations of staff.
  • Provide clinical supervision to lead clinicians and other staff, as assigned.
  • Provide support in clinical crises, as needed.
  • This role will have the opportunity to maintain a small caseload (up to 5 patients).
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Clinical Director and Athena leadership.

Qualifications :

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in mental health counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or psychology
  • Independent license as a mental health practitioner in New York (LMHC, LCSW, etc.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or administrative role.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical practices, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in training and mentoring clinical staff.
  • Knowledgeable in NYS OMH Outpatient Clinic regulations and NYS Mandated Reporting requirements
  • Knowledgeable in HIPAA Regulations and other relevant privacy statutes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Previous experience using electronic Medical Record systems and documentation standards.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry trends.
  • Cultural competence and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Word, Excel, G-Suite, and other software / applications.
  • Compensation based on years of experience and credentials.

    Working Conditions :

    The primary work location requires travel between the Rochester and Syracuse clinics on a hybrid basis. This is a professional work environment where a computer, desk, chair, and office supplies will be provided in either an office.

    Physical Requirements :

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role above. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear and speak on the phone or through virtual telehealth sessions conducted on a computer throughout the day, stand and sit for an extended period, and be able to write and answer emails in addition to carrying objects no greater than 20 pounds, when needed.
