Drainage Engineer – Transportation Design (Tampa, Florida)
A growing transportation design team is seeking a Drainage Engineer with experience in stormwater management, hydrology / hydraulics, and water resources engineering. This role supports major roadway and infrastructure projects across Florida , working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions.

What You’ll Do
- Prepare drainage design calculations, reports, and construction plans in accordance with FDOT and local standards
- Perform hydrologic & hydraulic modeling using tools such as ICPR, HEC-RAS, HY-8, ASAD , and similar programs
- Design stormwater systems : detention / retention, culverts, pipes, conveyance networks
- Support permitting packages for local, state, and federal agencies (e.g., FDOT, FDEP, SWFWMD, SFWMD)
- Coordinate with roadway, utility, and environmental teams to ensure integrated project design
- Prepare specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
- Perform quality checks and work with senior staff for technical guidance and mentorship
- Conduct occasional field visits, data collection, and construction support as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s a plus)P.E. in Florida preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months5–15+ years of experience in drainage, stormwater, or water resources designProficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ICPR, HEC-RAS, ASAD, StormCAD , or similar toolsStrong understanding of FDOT drainage design standards and permitting processesRoadway design experience a plusStrong communication, technical writing, and teamwork skillsAbility to manage tasks and deadlines in a fast-moving environmentIf you’re a drainage engineer looking to take the next step on impactful Florida infrastructure projects, reach out and let’s connect.
