Overview

Mid-level software engineer with experience driving progress, solving problems, and mentoring more junior team members; deeper expertise and applied knowledge within relevant area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in C++ or Java.
  • 3 years of experience designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience with data analytics metadata systems (e.g., HMS, cloud computing platform Glue, Iceberg Rest Catalog) or data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Trino, Flink, Beam).

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience with data lakes, particularly using Apache Iceberg.
  • Experience in Apache or other similar open-source projects such as Iceberg, Delta, Hudi, Spark, Presto, Flink etc.
  • Experience with Cloud Networking.

As a member of our small and early-stage team, you will have excellent learning and growth opportunities. You'll be part of the BigQuery team, empowered to design, implement, launch and land large-scale, impactful projects with the necessary support and guidance, and a pipeline of enterprise customers waiting to use your features. You'll be instrumental in shaping the architecture and future of BigQuery's metadata management capabilities. This position is focused around improving Federation support for BigLake.

    Responsibilities

  • Write and test product or system development code.
  • Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product / program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug / track / resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and its impact.
