Job Title: Shop Manager
Overview
The Fabrication Shop Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of shop operations for a mechanical contractor specializing in light industrial and pharmaceutical projects. This role oversees pre-construction planning, resource allocation, team leadership, and ensures quality and schedule compliance for fabricated piping and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate has extensive shop and field experience, strong coordination skills, and a proven ability to deliver in complex industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Manage daily shop activities, including planning, scheduling, and execution of fabrication work for piping and mechanical systems.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure timely delivery of fabricated components.
- Planning & Execution: Develop and implement shop mobilization and execution plans aligned with project milestones and client requirements.
- Material Management: Oversee procurement, inventory control, and material traceability for all shop operations.
- Team Development: Lead and mentor shop personnel, promoting a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Compliance & Quality: Ensure adherence to industry standards, AWS codes, and client-specific requirements for welding and fabrication.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records for weld mapping, turnover packages, and quality assurance processes.
- Risk & Cost Control: Implement risk mitigation strategies and manage change orders to maintain budget and schedule integrity.
- Technology Utilization: Use project management tools (Primavera P6, Bluebeam, SharePoint) for planning, tracking, and reporting.
- Field Integration: Collaborate with field teams to improve shop-to-field workflows and feedback loops.
- Training Support: Drive training initiatives for advanced techniques such as orbital welding and specialty fabrication.
Essential Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in fabrication shop management, project supervision, or field engineering within industrial, pharmaceutical, or utility-scale environments.
- Strong background in piping, welding, and mechanical system fabrication.
- Proven leadership in multidisciplinary team settings.
- Proficiency in project management software (Primavera P6, Bluebeam, SharePoint).
- Knowledge of AWS codes, WPS/PQR implementation, and quality control processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Certifications: OSHA 10/30, Boilermaker Journeyman, or equivalent.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with pharmaceutical or light industrial project requirements.
- Ability to optimize resources, align schedules, and mitigate risks effectively.
- Membership in relevant trade organizations (., Boilermakers).
- Familiarity with orbital welding and advanced fabrication technologies.
Work Environment
This position is based in a fabrication shop environment with a strong emphasis on safety and quality. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, procurement, and project management teams and regular use of project management tools. Occasional field visits may be required to support integration and training initiatives.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
