Travel Psychiatric Registered Nurse | Montgomery, Alabama

A psychiatric registered nurse role is available at a secure adolescent mental health unit in Montgomery, AL. This contract position requires skilled care for patients aged 12 to 18 within an 18-bed locked facility that includes both adolescent and adult psychiatric units. The schedule includes 12-hour night shifts starting at 7 : 00 PM, with a rotating weekend requirement on a four-week cycle. Occasional overtime is available for those interested.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care to adolescent psychiatric patients, utilizing de-escalation techniques to maintain safety

Administer medications using Omnicell dispensing systems and occasionally perform phlebotomy

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), nursing leadership, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners

Float between like units, including Adult Psychiatric, based on facility needs

Accurately document care in the Cerner EMR system

Attend orientation and training sessions as required to maintain compliance and familiarity with unit protocols

Qualifications

Active RN license with at least one year of psychiatric nursing experience, preferably with adolescent patients

Certification in BLS (Basic Life Support)

CPI / MAB / Secure certification required prior to start

Experience with electronic medical records, specifically Cerner, highly desired

Ability to work well in a locked, secure clinical environment

Shift And Scheduling Details

12-hour night shifts from 7 : 00 PM to 7 : 00 AM

Weekend rotations every other week or four weekends per month with optional block scheduling

Holiday scheduling per policy with some blackout dates; time off approvals up to seven days excluding blackout periods
